Seignosse Surf Villa
Lets welcome Spring. The season of great waves and the return of the sun.
The birds are singing again and enjoying the morning sunshine and the water’s warming up, whilst the Winter winds are calming down and slowing turning to light offshore winds and the days getting longer everyone is starting to plan a weekend away in France.
No better place to choose to go surfing this coming spring than Hossegor in the South-West of France.
Sunshine in the spring , no crowds with great waves and the lovely French culture that sticks with every travelling surfer when they leave.
Now my question is: Did you manage to score some surf time this past Winter in your home town ?
Well as you would know Easter and the months of April and May have always being considered Spring months and wow do they pump with waves and no crowds. Easter has got to be one of the best times of the year to get away to France on a surfing holiday.
Come Easter break which is relatively very calm in fact , because the French holiday makers only go on holiday in the summer ( July & August) the lineups can be deserted and and very surfer friendly. Imagine rocking up to the beach with a couple mates finding a peak less surfed by the few locals and catching some unbelievable rides of your life. Long peeling rights and lefts hitting the sand just perfect. Choose your wave , commit and drop into the barrel of your life.
Now thats what the area of Capbreton, Hossegor and Seignosse has to offer all the time. The local beaches really have it all. On the smaller days- the surf can be really great for the beginners with easy paddle out in the current that basically wrap around the sand bars which makes it a pleasure to surf. Whilst the swells get bigger and tend to move around a lot- then the better and more experienced surfers have way more choice and can find just the perfect wave on the low tide and high tide banks.
If you wanting to get away and find some really great surfing conditions with even less crowds then you can hit the beaches of Le Penon ( Seignosse) and stroll along the beach in a Northly direction into the what they 'forest' where there is nothing happening other than a awesome stretch of coastline with great looking waves. Nothing on the beach no cars , no buildings just a few humans wanting to catch some great waves.
The Atlantic ocean is awakening at this special time of the year and the water is warming up again so no real need for all that thick Winter wetsuits get away and enjoy some Spring sunshine.
Another great bonus in April and May is the public holidays and the reduced 'Spring Special' prices at the Seignosse Surf Villa managed and run by Kevin Olsen.
Getting down to the South-West of France has never being better. Your time is now.
Here’s our Top 3 options to score an excellent Easter surf holiday:
1. Capbreton
Starts delivering great punchy peaks for the pros all year round when the swells are up. This spot is great for both the beginners and advanced surfers and are well worth a visit, and crowds are mellow early season. The winds are generally lighter and more protected in Capbreton and with the 2 rock piers at Santosha and the old 'German bunkers' on the beach at La piste its a great view in and out of the water. A must see.
2. Hossegor
Now Hossegor normally throws everything at the surfers from small ridable novice waves at la Sud ( next to the harbour pier) , La Nord which is very famous for big monster peaks from the deep Atlantic ocean which is located in front of Hossegor Central with all the bars and restaurants plus the other famous waves of La Graviere. My absolute favourite wave in the world. Very intense and hollow barrels close to the beach rated top wave and surf spot in Europe. Rated awesome by the worlds best surfers.
3. Seignosse
If you have never seen the pure beauty of the beaches in Seignosse and have missed just how consistent and challenging a season it has been here.
Check out this video from Laurent Pujol a famous photographer from Seignosse who has just dropped this crazy clip of pumping surf. A must watch.
Anyways, March, April and May tend to be smaller, cleaner and way less crowded, so Seignosse is a great Spring special & Easter option.
